Founded by Luis Martínez Pueyo during his time at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, La Guirlande is one of the most versatile ensembles specialising in the historical performance of 18th and 19th century music on the current scene. Its repertoire focuses on 18th and 19th century music in which the flute plays a fundamental role: from the flute sonata – with harpsichord or pianoforte, as well as with basso continuo – to the solo concerto, including all kinds of chamber music combinations. Furthermore, the use of original instruments or replicas of them, as well as a rigorous historical study of performance practice through different treatises and sources, mark the main objective of La Guirlande: to achieve a performance of the repertoire as close as possible to the original idea of each of the composers.

La Guirlande is made up of musicians of recognised prestige in the field of historical performance. Having studied at some of the most important schools of early music in the world, all of them collaborate with ensembles and orchestras of European and international renown. Since its foundation, La Guirlande has participated in important festivals such as Freunde Alter Musik Basel, Wimbledon International Music Festival, Centro Nacional de Difusión Musical, Festival Internacional de Santander, Quincena Musical de San Sebastián, Festival de Música Antigua de Úbeda y Baeza, Festival de Música Antigua de Sevilla, Festival Internacional de Arte Sacro de la Comunidad de Madrid, Semana de Música Antigua de Álava, Festival de Música Antigua de Peñíscola, Festival de Besançon – Montfaucon, Festival Internazionale di Musica Antica Note Senza Tempo, Mvsica Cordis Konzertreihe Egerkingen, Echoes Festival of Latin Classical Music, Festival Fora do Lugar, Festival Baroque Vivant Basel, Festival de Música Barroca de Albacete, Festival de Música Antigua de Casalarreina, Clásicos en Verano de la Comunidad de Madrid, y Ciclo de Conciertos de Orgao Vila Nova de Famalicao e Santo Tirso entre otros. Además, organiza el Festival de Música Antigua de Épila.

La Guirlande takes its name from one of the main symbols of the God Apollo, a sign of glory and recognition in the arts, wisdom and games.
